I’m friggin’ obsessed: Coconut Oil

Slop it on

Friggin’ Obsessed day is usually Friday, but I’m MOVING this weekend! And not just moving across town..I’m moving to a new state! This born and bred New York gal is hauling herself over to Western Massachusetts (Northampton to be exact) where I will be completing my dietetic internship at Keene State College (which is in New Hampshire). I’m excited. I’m scared. I’m anxious, nervous, but above all, SUPER excited for the major life overhaul.

OK, so this week I’m so frigging obsessed with coconut oil I cannot even begin to tell you. But not coconut oil for cooking (which is fab, too). No, I’m head over heels in love with coconut oil as a body moisturizer. Whaaaaaa?

Hear me out! I had never tried this before cause I thought I’d be a greasy tater tot, and I hate that  slick, slippery feeling on my skin. But since my commitment to go more au natural, I took the plunge and purchased some coconut oil at my local health food store. And OMG, this shizz rocks.

It’s solid in it’s natural state, and yes, it’s oil, but it goes on so lightly and smoothly and gets absorbed right away. The result: the smoothest skin I’ve ever had. We’re talking babies’ butts here, folks.

Because coconut oil is pure oil and not water based like other moisturizers, you’re locking in your body’s moisture so your skin won’t dry out. In fact, it even helps repair damaged skin and will keep the skin from blemishes related to aging and sun damage. Sign me up!

Promise me you’ll go get some coconut oil (100% unrefined, pure virgin coconut oil) and slather that over your body. Just try it. And you’ll thank me cause not only will your significant other NOT be able to stop touching you but you’ll save hundreds (or perhaps thousands) on skin creams and moisturizers.

Do you use coconut oil? Let me know how much you love it!

Cracking up. A friend and fellow RD and I were at a conference a couple years back. We went to the nutiva booth and the woman told us to rub the coconut oil on our hands. We did and lugged about a giant container. It’s good stuff.
